Dear Pakistan,
You have turned 67 today and struggled through bomb blasts, target killings, corruption, filthy politics and diplomacy. But yet, the beauty you hold within never fades.
I am not writing this note to show the so-called patriotism that everyone is portraying through paradigmatic forward messages, facebook statuses, tweets that are just a matter of time.
I am scribbling this note to tell all the Pakistanis (not just in Pakistan) to genuinely acknowledge the beauty this land holds and to castigate the things that are ungrounded. We must learn to highlight the things in order to meliorate them instead of turning a blind eye and having a not-my-headache attitude.
Although the reason why I love Pakistan is obvious – the separate identity you have bestowed me as a Pakistani – which I can’t thank you even with all the exciting words present in this world.
Without it, I would have been an insecure fragment roaming here and there with no place to call home.
I promise whenever I go and wherever I go, I’d never forget you.
There is so much to love about it. All those tiny little golgappay (love at first sight) shops that you find in practically every nook and corner of this country makes me feel familiar even if I don’t gobble them up every time I catch a glimpse of them. Classy rickshaws and buses with the catchy lines studded on them which adds to the beauty of roads although noise pollution and reckless driving is not something to be proud of. Swank variety of shalwar-kameez and traditional dresses that you get to have them from boutiques established in every other mall. Pakistani Dramas, obviously! Random pathan dhabas which never fails to offer you hot and happening cup of tea and paratha. All the beaches in Karachi – the free places you can visit whenever you feel upset or in a mood of some fun. Lahori Charga. Scrumptious Biryani. Serenity of Islamabad.
Nevertheless, I won’t say it’s perfect because let’s admit it, it’s not. Frankly speaking, I abhor the education system where only the wealthy gets to study in top-notch institutions and the government schools are in a terrible state which can be used for anything but education.
It also hurts me to see the genuinely helpless and notorious behavior of police.
It also kills me to see the crimes that are committed in the name of honor and prestige and how we don’t bother about it.
I believe our culture is partly shadowed with the shades of corruption, bribery, and cheating which we don’t take any step to eradicate it. Perhaps, we are powerless.
I don’t want to go on and make this note monotonous so I will wrap this here. I hope this josh-e-junoon that has sparked up because of 14th August doesn’t fade and instead of just forwarding messages and putting status, we genuinely and persistently pray to get rid of this wretched government which has made Pakistanis engross in little matters of load shedding, violence, inflation that they are not able to think beside this let alone take any action.
The Holy Quran says:
“Verily never will Allah change a condition of a people until they change what is within their souls.”
So instead of whining and making a fuss of the current state of affairs, start bringing about a change. Be it a little one!
