You’ll Be Safe

They told me that the world was falling apart. They told me that they were taking me somewhere safe. They told me that it will be over soon, that I just need to wait. When I asked them why, they told me that it was not important.

“You’ll be safe here.” The woman told me when she ushered me into a room like cell.

“But-”

“Don’t worry. It’ll be over soon.” She assured me before locking me in. I was confused and desperate for answers but nobody cared to give me any. You’ll be safe here.

Safe from what? Why the world was falling apart? Why they brought me here? Until when I can get out from this prison?!

Few Days Later

I was in my cell like magnificently dark room. My cheek was pressed against the cold window which was laced with frost. I watched as the snowflakes fall down, everything was dull and white. It scared me first, but now, I was used to it. It started to get really boring but there was nothing I could do about it.  I moved from my previous position, licked my dry and chapped lips. I see my faint reflection on the window. I saw  a pale skinny girl, her cheeks were hollow due to starvation and there were dark circles under her eyes. I was sure that she was not me but the problem was she is me. And I can do nothing to change it.

The fire that was lit to keep the room warm and to keep me from dying of cold. There was a tray of food lying on the floor waiting to be eaten. But just like me waiting for an answer, it was kept waiting too. A tear fell and it absorbed in my ragged clothes.

I repeatedly asked the woman who brought me food two times a day, the food I never touched. I wondered what they did to my uneaten food, throw it away or gave it to someone else.  The woman’s eyes were always pitch black that reminded me of eternal darkness and if I looked deeper into them, I might get lost.

She never answered me since day one. Why I hadn’t eaten my food or even told me to shut up. Never. She would just replaced my uneaten food tray with a freshly made new one everyday.

I tried to escape but I lost in every way possible.

I stopped trying now. All I do is staring, watching and mostly waiting…

I was locked up here for days, years and maybe decades. I don’t know and I don’t remember.

I tried to remember where I was from but no use. All I remember was that I was brought here to be safe, the world was falling apart and I needed to be safe.

“You know why I’m here.” I said to the woman who’s motions were monotonous. She didn’t even glanced at me, just replaced the tray. “I’m talking to you!” I screamed, holding the woman’s arm and forced her to look at me. I gasped when I saw there were no whites in her eyes. Just black, dark, haunting. I let go of her arm, scared of what she might do to me. But she just left.

For a minute, I wanted to kill my self with the burning fire, but death seemed too easy to me. I found myself crying again. I dropped down on the floor, incapable to think or comprehend anything further.

“Did she try to attack you?” Nick asked Lucy. She shrugged and said,” She was obviously desperate. How long are you going to keep them, here? Seriously, if it weren’t for our eyes, I swear she could’ve strangled me to death.”

“Oh, don’t worry.” He said confidently as he watched the screen that was split into various cubes, each showing different people of various ages,” These humans deserve this torture, after what they have done to destroy Earth.”

“I can’t help but agree with you.”
