The Jagah is always looking for fresh voices and compelling stories. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or putting your work out there for the first time, we want to hear from you.
What We’re Looking For
We accept submissions in the following categories:
- Fiction — Short stories, flash fiction, novel excerpts (up to 5,000 words)
- Poetry — All forms and styles, in English or Urdu
- Life — Personal essays, memoirs, reflections (up to 3,000 words)
- Culture & Arts — Reviews, commentary, analysis (up to 2,500 words)
- Politics — Opinion pieces, analysis, commentary (up to 2,500 words)
- Taboo — Pieces that challenge conventions and spark important conversations (up to 3,000 words)
- Urdu — Creative writing in Urdu across all genres
- Multimedia — Photo essays, video features, audio pieces
Submission Guidelines
All submissions must be original and unpublished work. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere. Please include a brief bio (2-3 sentences) with your submission. We accept work in both English and Urdu. Submissions should be in a standard format (doc, docx, or plain text).

For example: [Fiction] — The Last Train to Lahore
What to Expect
We aim to respond to all submissions within 4-6 weeks. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we may not be able to provide individual feedback on pieces we do not accept. If your piece is selected, our editorial team will work with you on any necessary revisions before publication.
Rights
We ask for first publication rights only. After publication on The Jagah, all rights revert to the author. We only ask that if the piece is republished elsewhere, The Jagah is credited as the original place of publication.
