Her big brown eyes
Open and alert
For what may come
As I begin
With the brave soldier
I watch
Another scene unfolds, in those big brown eyes
She is in, lost and gone
Imagining the soldier proudly march
He is brave, and she knows it
Didn’t he save his friends from the bullies when he was in school?
The soldier marches, secretly she cheers
Enemy is near, that little forehead frowns
Her mind races, what would come?
Would he fall or rise with the wounds?
I keep my pace, taking it slow
Those eyes go wide, that mouth a perfect O
His arm is slashed open, she feels the pain
Her imagination racing ahead, picturing the blood rain
I pause, letting the moment sink
The soldier is wounded, beaten down
Run or rise, he must decide
But she makes a decision too, I see it in her eyes
She is with him, in her own little mind
I pick up again with the gallant soldier
As he rises with might, determined
Those big brown eyes twinkle, an approval
Her soldier made the right choice
The eyes are closing, curtains drawn
But for them, it’s just another pause
She will be brave, too
In the dreams that follow, she will rise
Let the battle begin
